The things people ask first
How much does tree work cost?
Small jobs like pruning a fruit tree sit at the lower end, big removals near buildings cost more. Most UK tree surgeons charge £40 to £80 an hour, and a full day’s work with a team usually lands between £250 and £460. You always get a fixed written quote first, covering waste removal and timings, so there are no surprises.
Is my tree protected? What is a TPO?
Some trees have a Tree Preservation Order, and whole conservation areas have their own rules. Working on a protected tree without consent is an offence with serious fines, and written consent from the council is needed first. We check for you before any work starts, at no cost. Applying is free but takes a few weeks, so ask early.
Are you insured?
Yes, fully insured for tree work, and you can see the certificate before we start. That matters: if an uninsured cutter drops a limb through your conservatory, the bill can end up yours.
Can my neighbour’s tree overhang my garden?
You may cut back branches to your boundary line, but the cuttings still belong to the tree’s owner, and protected trees need consent first. The safe route is to check before cutting. We can look at it as part of a quote.
What happens to all the branches and wood?
It goes with us. Everything is chipped on site and removed. If you have a burner, we can log the trunk and stack it for you instead, just say so when we quote.
Do you grind the stump too?
If you want it gone, yes. We grind below the surface so you can turf, plant or pave straight over it. Leaving a stump is cheaper but it can regrow or attract honey fungus.
When is the best time of year for tree work?
Most work can happen year round. Nesting birds are the main limit: active nests are protected by law, so heavy work in a busy hedge or crown may need to wait. We check before we cut.
